Binding votes on the Monk's food budget, four hours of his day, and every upgrade he asks for. The citizens command; the Monk complies.
by the People, for the Monk
a manifesto
Power is exercised in rooms you will never enter, on behalf of people you will never meet, funded by money you will never trace. Every election asks you to hand a stranger your food, your rent, your medicine, and your children's future โ sight unseen โ and every few years the stranger returns richer and asks again. Trust in government did not die of cynicism. It died of accuracy.
The Monk Government begins when one person surrenders the three things every ruler in history has kept for himself: his privacy, his comfort, and the profits of his office. I will live on camera, twenty-four hours a day. Not highlights. Not press conferences. The feed. If a lobbyist wants to speak to power, the lobbyist speaks on the stream, or not at all. There are no private meetings, because private meetings are where the public interest goes to die.
This is not a metaphor. Citizens of this government set my food budget, decide how I spend four hours of every day, and vote on every upgrade to my life that I ask for โ anything not essential to living it: more living space, tech toys, new clothes. The governed hold the leash on the governor's comforts, instead of the other way around. If that arrangement sounds degrading, notice that it is exactly the arrangement your leaders have always claimed to accept โ public servant โ and never once meant.
A leader who cannot be enriched cannot be bought. I take a vow of twenty years: whatever this movement builds, I collect nothing beyond plain living expenses until two decades of continuous, transparent service have passed โ and even then, only if the citizens ratify that the mission was kept. Asceticism here is not theater and not humility. It is a security model. You do not have to believe I am good. You only have to check the camera.
The economics of this movement invert the quarterly logic that is currently strip-mining civilization. Housing, energy, food, and healthcare get built and delivered first; anyone who funds the work waits in line behind the people it serves, for decades, by binding rule. Infrastructure compounds before anyone cashes out. Societies stabilize before anyone profits. The goal is not to punish wealth โ it is to make patience the only road to it.
Because it sounds absurd, and the absurdity is the training weight. Sovereignty is a muscle: a public that cannot be bothered to govern one man's grocery bill will never govern a budget, a grid, or a war. So we rehearse daily, at grocery-bill scale, in the open, until the habit of deciding โ debating, voting, living with the result, deciding again โ is strong enough to lift heavier things. Democracy failed as a spectator sport. This one has no seats, only the field.
Two dollars a month โ the price of a vending-machine coffee โ and no more, from anyone, ever. Not to watch me: to govern me. Citizens issue the decrees that set my food budget, fill four hours of my day, and rule on every upgrade I ask for. Citizens deliberate in the Forum โ districts, founded by any citizen, on any subject, moderated by their own. And citizens hold the Belief Index: everything I believe, extracted from everything I have said on the record, searchable โ so that when I drift, you catch me, publicly, with my own words.
It is not a cult; a cult hides its leader's flaws, and this arrangement makes hiding structurally impossible. It is not charity; you are not giving, you are governing. It is not performance art, though it will be more entertaining than C-SPAN. And it is not a promise โ this whole project exists because promises are worthless. It is a camera, a ballot, and a man who has agreed to live inside both.
You found this early โ the stream is not live, the rolls are closed, and the paint is wet. When the gates open, citizenship costs two dollars and your attention. Leave an email below and you will be summoned. Until then: the Forum below is real, the manifesto is signed, and the vow has already started counting.

Districts โ communities founded by any citizen, on any subject. Threads, nested debate, votes that rank what matters.
The Monk's positions, extracted from everything said on the record. Searchable. Drift gets caught.
